This contemporary table runner is the perfect size accent piece for smaller tables, buffets and dressers.

To create this runner I began with washing, mordanting and dying the fabric a base color. Next, for the first layer of pattern, I dyed the silk with madder root, incorporating a clamp-resist (shibori) technique. After the fabric dried, I used hand block printing to add another layer of surface design. Then stitched the hem by machine and pressed to finish.

fabric: Ahimsa silk

This medium weight silk is hand spun and hand woven in India. It is humanely harvested without harm to the silkworms. Woven and processed in small mills, this silk has a beautiful drape and texture.
