pomegranate silver silk scarf
pomegranate silver silk scarf
Crisp with a lovely drape, this scarf looks equally great paired with jeans or evening wear.
To create this scarf I began with washing, mordanting and dying the fabric a base color. Next, for the first layer of pattern, I dyed the silk with pomegranate rinds, incorporating a clamp-resist (shibori) technique. After the fabric was dry, I used hand block printing to add another layer of surface design. Then, after drying the silk for three or four days, I set, machine hemmed and pressed to finish.
fabric: Tussah silk
The tussah silk I use is hand reeled and hand woven. The wild silk cocoon gives this silk a natural beige color and crisp texture. Hand woven on small looms built into the cottages of traditional weavers, this silk is collected after the moth has pushed the silk aside and emerged.
care: Hand wash with mild shampoo, air dry and steam press on silk setting.fabric: tussah silk. This fabric is crisp and has a bit of a sparkle.
