deep olive ramie scarf
deep olive ramie scarf
Deep olive green. The color is sophisticated, the fabric adds an airy elegance.
To create this scarf I began with washing the fabric. The next steps include tannin, mordant and dying the fabric a base color. For the first layer of pattern, I used osage, and ferrous, incorporating a clamp-resist (shibori) technique. Then, after drying, I hand block printed and painted the fabric to add another layer of surface design. After setting, the scarf is machine hemmed and pressed.
fabric: ramie, a natural fiber first cultivated in Eastern Asia, is one of the oldest fibers in the world. Cultivated for more than 5000 years, ramie, also know as China grass, grass linen, and grasscloth, is similar to linen, but has more body and a bit of a crispness.
care: hand wash with mild shampoo, air dry and steam press on linen setting.
