cutch ramie shawl
cutch ramie shawl
Light airy elegant drape in a sophisticated, deep, slightly purple-brown with hand stitched detail.
To create this scarf I began with washing the fabric. The next steps include tannin, mordant and dying the fabric a base color. Next, for the first layer of pattern, I used cutch, incorporating a clamp-resist (shibori) technique. A quick Iron bath changed the color from light brown to deep plum-gray. Then, after drying, I used hand block printing to add another layer of surface design. After setting the fabric, the scarf is machine hemmed and pressed.
